He served as vicar in the parishes of Navapolack and Miory and as rector for the parishes of Bešankovičy and Ula. From 2003 he served as rector of the parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Viciebsk and Head of the Deanery of North Viciebsk. On November 29th 2013 Pope Francis appointed Alieh Butkievič as the new Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Viciebsk. On June 3rd 2015 he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops in Belarus.
