Career 

He began his career in 1979 as an academic assistant at the chair of theory of functions at BSU.
In 1983 he started his doctoral studies at the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute and in 1986 he defended his thesis on methods of teaching mathematics.

He worked as a teacher of mathematics in the secondary schools № 34 and № 170 in Minsk, a secretary of the Komsomol Committee of the Belarusian State University, a lecturer at the Department of geometry, topology, and methods of teaching mathematics, and as an assistant professor of the same department.
In 1997 he headed the Academy of Postgraduate Education.

In 2000 he was appointed the first vice-rector of the Belarusian State University, and in 2001 - the first deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
Since 3 May 2014 he has been the Rector of the Belarusian State Pedagogical University.
