Career 

Previously he has worked as a history teacher in a secondary school, a Research Fellow at the National Museum of the History of Religion and as Research Fellow at the Hrodna State Museum of History and Archaeology.

In 1991 he enrolled in graduate studies (in absentia) at the Institute of History of the NAS of Belarus. Under the guidance of Professor Michail Bič he conducted research on the history of nationalist movements in the Belarusian lands during the revolution of 1905-1907. He then defended his PhD thesis at the Institute of History in 1995.

From 1998 onwards he worked as Deputy Editor of the 'Historical Almanac' scientific journal. The year after he started working as the Editor of local history almanac 'The City of St. Gubert', an almanac dedicated to the history of Hrodna and the fate of local historical and cultural monuments. From 2000 onwards he was Head, organiser of and participant in many scientific expeditions on oral history in the regions of Belarus. As of 2001 he is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Belarusian Historical Society.

In 2002 he defend his doctoral thesis on Polish socio-political movements in Belarusian and Lithuanian lands in 1864-1917.

From 2006 onwards he was Professor at the European Humanities University (Vilnius). From 2007 onwards he worked as Director of the Institute of Historical Studies (EHU) and later became Editor of 'Homo Historicus', a yearbook focusing on anthropological history.
From 2008-2011 he was also one of the organisers and leaders of the 'Hrodna palimpsest' research project.
