In 1965 - 1977 he served with the Internal Troops of the USSR in Minsk, where he was a correspondent for the newspaper division "Boevoi Prizyv" and published in the newspaper "Na strazhe Oktiabria" – the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the BSSR.

From 1977 he worked for the newspaper "Znamia Yunosti" (mouthpiece of the Komsomol, now - the Belarusian Republican Youth Union) as a head of a department. He then worked as an editor in a department of "Krynica" magazine, a columnist at "Narodnaja Hazieta" (mouthpiece of the Supreme Council of the BSSR). Since 1994 he has worked in the editorial office of the newspaper "Sovetskaya Belorussia" and in July 1995 became its editor.

While serving as chief editor of "Sovetskaya Belorussia" Jakubovič was involved in the creation of a large state-owned media holding. He also oversees the newspapers "Soyuz" and "The Minsk Times", the magazines "Spetsnaz" and "Belarus," the weekly "Voice of the Motherland" and other publications.

Jakubovič is now part of the Public Advisory Council at the Presidential Administration, a member of the boards of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Information of Belarus, the chairman of the Public Coordinating Council in media sphere, a participant in a number of media projects ("Club of Editors" on state television). He is considered one of the most influential representatives of the ideological vertical of Belarus.
