In 1983-1984 he worked as an engineer of the Central Research Institute for Complex Use of Water Resources at the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources of the USSR. From 1985 to 1993 worked at the State Committee for Nature Protection, and in 1993-1994 headed the Department of Economics and Natural Management of the State Ecological Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

From 1994 to 2002 he was First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, in 2002-2005 held the position of Vice-Rector for Economics at the Belarusian State University.

From 2005 to 2009 - Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Science and Technology, in 2009-2013 its Chairman. In 2014-2016 - Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and International Scientific and Educational Cooperation of the Belarusian State Technological University.
