He was the personal secretary of Metropolitan Philaret. Served in the Minsk Cathedral (1986-1987), the Temple-monument of Russian glory in Leipzig (1987-1994). After returning to Belarus, he headed the Foreign Relations Department of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. He was engaged in the construction of the Church of All Saints and the House of Mercy. Pouny is considered to be a close friend to Aliaksandr Lukashenka.
