He worked at the Minsk Tractor Plant and was a mechanic repairman at Minsk Mechanical Plant and as a judge in the Miadziel district court. In 1972 became a judge of the Minsk Region Court, and in 1977-1984 was its chairman.

From 1984 to 1987 was Deputy Minister of Justice of the BSSR. In 1987-1988 head the department of the general courts of the USSR in the Ministry of Justice. In 1988 became Minister of Justice of the BSSR.

Since 1989 was the first deputy chairman of the USSR Supreme Court, and in 1992-1997 First Deputy Minister of Justice and Minister of Justice of Belarus.
