From 1960 to 1972 worked as a construction worker in Russia and Kazakhstan. From 1972 to 1976 he led the Kobryn construction organization. From 1976 to 1996 headed Brestablselbud.

The next three years he was a deputy head of Presidential Administration and the first deputy prime minister. From 1998 to 2011 was a head of the National Bank. In 2012-2013, he has worked as assistant to the president and from 2013 to 2014 was a deputy prime minister.
