From 1972-1982 served in the Army. Between 1982 to 1989 was a judge, the Chief Judge of the Buda-Kasheliova district and a judge at the Homel Regional Court. Beginning in 1989 he led the Homel Region Court.

In 1998 became First Deputy Minister of Justice, from 1999 to 2004 he was the first deputy chairman of the Supreme Court. Between 2004-2008 was Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus.
