In 1976-1991 he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR, a retired colonel. From 1992 to 1994 he headed the "People's Movement of Belarus", from 1992 to 1994, he worked in the Department of the National Security of State Secretariat of the Republic of Belarus. Later - as a Chair of the Committee on social protection of servicemen under the Government of Belarus. Since 1994 he is a member of the LDP, since 1995 chairman of the party. He participated in the presidential elections of 2001, 2006 and 2015, was an MP at the House of Representatives.
